Urgent NANNA business!

URGENT phone call received yesterday from my daughter:

"Mum, because it was cold, D (grandson) went to put on the winter pyjamas you made him last year and they are now too small. Can you make some urgently please and bring them with you next week"

What's a "NANNA" meant to do?..drop everything and make him 2 pairs of pyjamas
  Hope they fit him.
I will make more, when I know the right size!

Now back to customer quilting...

Fat Quarter Club Thank You

I had a birthday recently and the wonderful ladies in The Fat Quarter Birthday Club sent me the lovely items pictured below:
I'd like to thank everyone for the wonderful gifts and especially to Anthea who was my secret present giver, who gave me the cloth covered journal.

Thank you again.

Zippered Pouches

After making the "Australian" pillowcases, I had some left over fabric which I made into zippered, lined, flat-bottom pouches.
Lined up in a row
I have now used up nearly all my Aussie fabric...

....just have a panel left that I am thing of making into lined zipper bags

I have been approached by a shop who wants to sell my table runners & pouches...
VERY happy about that.
Pinned, ready to quilt

More Aussie Pillowcases

Last weekend, I made up another 16 pillowcases,
using up all of the Aussie fabric I had purchased.
I uploaded this picture on Facebook to show my friends what sewing I had done over the weekend, and straight away, I was asked how much I was selling them for.
I hadn't even worked out the price when a friend bought the flag ones.

I had only had enough fabric for one pair of pillowcases in the flag material and the same friend asked for 2 pairs...I was unable to buy anymore from the local quilt shop, but I sent a private photo to her of what I had made from the left over fabric:
She bought them also!

The pillowcases would be GREAT gifts for overseas friends, as they are "Australian" and MADE IN AUSTRALIA (not China, like most Australian souvenirs)
plus they are flat and don't weigh too much to post!

Goes to show, I should have bought more than half a metre of the Aussie flag fabric!

American Pillowcases with an Aussie Twist

I have been adapting an American pillowcase pattern to have an Australian twist.

American pillow cases are the same front & back, so when you sleep on them, you end up with a seam mark imprinted on your face, plus they DON'T have the inside fold to "tuck" your pillow in.
American Pillowcase
I have come up with an "American" front, a back with no seams that you can sleep on, plus the inside fold to keep your pillow in the pillowcase.
FRONT of my version

BACK of my version

INSIDE of my version
So, seeing I was happy with my version, I cut out and made a "few" more!
19 Pillowcases
They are all Australian themed, except for the bottom row.

I am sure there is a pattern out there with all this, but, hey!,....
I'm happy with what "I" came up with.

Today, I am quilting a customer's quilt.

Today's project

Today I started with this Santa panel
then turned it into 8 lined zipper bags
they are all 11" x 14"
The fabric that is showing above the zipper on each bag is the same fabric on the back of the bag.

Too early to start sewing for Christmas??...NO!

Today's sewing...and looking!!!

I finished the customer's quilts last night, so this morning I went looking for a pre-cut kit that I bought late last year.
While looking, I came across 2 Australian birds that were cross stitched.
I vaguely remember buying them framed with no glass at a garage sale ages ago.  I brought them home & took them out of the frame, then put them away in a safe, flat place to make something out of them, one day.
Well "one day" is TODAY.
I made them into lined zippered bags.  They are about 11.5" x 14.5".
Just love, love, love them!
then I made up a pouch from the left over koala fabric
Now I have to go back & look for this kit...it's here somewhere!

Australian Koala Table Runners

Now these are definitely "Australian" table runners.
(If you click on the photo it will show up the koalas).
Just finished quilting & binding then today.
(Colours are nicer than what the photo shows)

I also had another finish late yesterday afternoon...
this cute cot quilt
I used matching fabric for the backing.
I was a tad disappointed in the "faded" colour of the panel, but it is still cute.
Now I better quilt the customer's quilts that have come in during the last few days!

Second kit made up

Just finished another quilt.
As mentioned in an earlier post, I bought 2 kits, but ended up using some fabric out of the second kit to make the first quilt larger...

I had to find a fabric in my stash to make the second quilt...
as I didn't have "quite" enough fabric to do the outside border as big, I used up the left over whites and made a border of white, then a border of the light blue.
I am happy with the results.

Australian Table Runners

I made these table runners on Friday, then quilted them yesterday (Saturday),
then today I sewed the binding on.
as the backing piece of fabric was just long enough to also quilt a cot panel,
 I quilted another Santa panel
also sewed the binding on today.

Before I did the above sewing, I quilted a couple of customer's quilts.

This weekend's projects

As I am up to date with customer's quilts, I have been making items for my stall that will be in September at Dungog's Quiltarama, plus my own Sale in December at the CWA Hall.

Firstly, a cot quilt... I just LOVE Mickey Mouse!
and what the back looks like
I bought these table runners as pre-cut kits.
Only the tops were in the kit, I had to use my own fabric for the backing & binding.
Now, I have to make a start on something else..

Day 3 catch up

Well this is the last of the catch up photos of what I have made since Christmas.
I have made some items for my USA trip.
I designed a koala for my zippered bags and here is what I came up with:
then played with my embroidery machine for the kangaroo
platypus
and koala, making them into lined zippered bags.
then I made some tea-towels
plus made some with my home town on it.
These tea-towels are made up by me, but then sent to an embroiderer who charges me $5 each motif she sews on.
I then wanted to use some of the huge PILE of 7" zippers I have and made some flat bottomed pouches:
I experimented firstly with Christmas fabric I had..
the used up some of the Australian fabric
and lastly!
I made up one and a half jars of wild blackberry jam.
Phew!..that's all the catching up..I hope I can keep up with my blogging.
Until next post...

Day 2 of catch up = Cot Quilt Panels

Wonder if anyone is still following me?
hope I haven't dropped off their "favourite" list!
Well here are  more photos:
COT QUILT PANELS
Firstly a Christmas panel
then the last of my Bambi panels
then I made up this cot quilt with my fabrics
the with the left over fabric from the panel I used in the stars in the above quilt..I made this one up.
Not real happy with the end result...think I should have had tram lines in between the squares
then it would have been too big for a cot quilt!
Then I bought 3 of the following tractor panels with matching hardcover books.
I made up 2 exactly the same
and had tractor fabric in my stash for the backing
Then I made up as I sewed, the third panel into a larger quilt
 (61" x 67")
and had a plain backing for it.
Well that is the cot quilts.
More pictures of other sewing tomorrow...
Until next post...
