Sewing & Garage Sales

I bought some 100% cotton white tea towels while I was in the States last year (with the idea of embroidering them for my craft/quilt sale in December) and decided to wash one and then embroider it, then use it to see how absorbent they were.  I was VERY happy with the results as the tea towel is so soft and dried the dishes nicely.
They are HUGE - 32" x 38" - where normal tea towels are about 20" x 28".
I have made 8 and got another 8 to make... I am going to sell them for $4 each.
I have been making more of my Choko Pickles.
I just LOVE going to garage sales most Saturdays with my boyfriend, and I bought this carry tray for $2.
I also bought this basket of stretch fabric (fleece, interlock & heaps of ribbing) for $15 and the basket was thrown in too.  I will make pyjamas & nighties for my daughter & grandchildren.
The BEST bargain I got was a wooden towel rail for $2.  I am going to use it as a quilt display rack...my boyfriend is sanding it back & will stain & lacquer it for me... so I can't show you a photo of it as it is at his place!

Until next post...

Flat Stanley

A friend of mine in the States has asked me to help her grandson with a school project.  Apparently the class has read a book called "Flat Stanley" by Jeff Brown.  In the story, Stanley gets flattened by a billboard falling on him and now Stanley can slid under doors, fly like a kite etc... The class project is to send a Flat Stanley to someone and have them take him around and send him back with photos and places of where he has been.  Well this Flat Stanley has travelled to Australia.

Here is how I started "my" story of Flat Stanley:

"Now Flat Stanley, I am sending you off with my Grandma Jane to visit her friend, Miss Julie, in Australia, so you can come back to me and tell me all about that land down under, Goodbye!". Flat Stanley was placed into Grandma Jane’s handbag to begin his journey.

"I'm so excited", thought Flat Stanley, "Australia! Yippee! I hope I get to see lots and lots while I'm there!"
It was fun to do.
Until next post..

Baby Quilt & Present

Last weekend I managed to make up this baby quilt.

Here is a close up of one of the embroidered squares that I sewed while at my boyfriend's place over the weekends.  The quilt is now at the quilters.  I will show you a photo of the finished item when I have done it.

Now the following photo is a very belated birthday gift from a friend.  The parcel said to open the gift BEFORE I read the card.  I opened the gift and found these..... finger puppets??? ....  NO!!!!
Wine bottle toppers!  Aren't they so cute...and yes, my friend made them.

Until next post...

Tasmania

Last weekend I flew to Tasmania (from NSW) to take my friend out to dinner for her 70th birthday!

I have been to Hobart twice in my life, once as a school kid (MANY MANY years ago) and the other time was for a conference where I flew into Hobart, stayed at the conference for 3 days and flew home... this time I was treated to 2 full days of touring around.

Flying into the airport was like flying into a small town instead of the capital city!

During Saturday afternoon we went for a walk on the boardwalk around the Casino...so pretty and CLEAN... then we went for a flutter in the Casino.

That evening we were greeted with a wonderful rainbow after an afternoon rainfall.
A wonderful weekend and I was sorry it ended.

Until next post...
